The Guy Behind the Channel

Just a gen x dad Who has always  Tried to avoid Paying for Things He Could Do Himself.

I'm Chris. I've been fixing, maintaining, and occasionally breaking things around the house and under the hood for over 30 years. My Dad was a Custom Home Contractor and I had the pleasure and privilege of working with him for a large portion of my life, building modest homes as well as Million Dollar Masterpieces. I've also been a bartender, a restaurant manager, a car detailer, and a thrift store owner, all of which have given me a unique perspective on how to do things myself efficiently and for less money. What started as necessity turned into a genuine obsession — and eventually, a YouTube channel.

The Origin Story

It Started With a $900 Plumber Quote.

Back in 2004, I bought my first house. Three months in, I had a leaky pipe under the kitchen sink. The plumber quoted me $900. I didn't have $900. So I watched some videos, bought a $14 part, and fixed it myself in 45 minutes.

That was it. That was the moment. I realized that most home and vehicle maintenance isn't actually that hard — it just looks intimidating if nobody's ever shown you how. Tradespeople are great, and there are absolutely jobs you should hire out. But a huge chunk of what homeowners pay for every year? Totally doable yourself, with the right information and the right tools.

I started the channel to be the resource I wish I'd had. No fluff, no sponsored garbage, no pretending everything goes perfectly on the first try. Just real walkthroughs from someone who's made every mistake in the book and learned from all of them.

What You'll Find Here

Home Maintenance. Vehicle Maintenance. Honest Gear Reviews.

Home Repairs & Maintenance

Plumbing, electrical basics, HVAC filters, gutters, weatherproofing, drywall — the stuff every homeowner needs to know but nobody teaches you.

Vehicle Maintenance

Oil changes, brake jobs, fluid checks, OBD2 codes, tire rotations — keeping your car running without handing your wallet to the dealership.

Tool & Gear Reviews

I buy the tools, use them on real projects, and tell you exactly what's worth the money and what's a waste of shelf space.

Affiliate Picks

Every product I link to is something I've personally used. If I wouldn't buy it again, it doesn't make the list.

The Philosophy

I Don't Do Sponsored Content.

Every tool, product, and recommendation on this site is something I've bought with my own money and used on real jobs. I run affiliate links — that's how the site stays free — but it never changes what I recommend. If something sucks, I'll tell you it sucks.
